The Story

Initially a form of recreation reserved for men, ski racing racing’s romance and elegance came into clear view in 1931 during the first unofficial FIS World Alpine Championships and then again in 1948 during the V Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland. 1931 marked Esme MacKinnon’s British victories in the downhill and slalom, the first for any woman and a resounding transformation of a sport finally graced and refined by female precision, style, and aplomb. Seventeen years later, inspired by MacKinnon, women compete in their first downhill and slalom events of the ’48 Winter Olympics and names such as Hedy Schlunegger of Switzerland and Gretchen Fraser of the United States would be awarded the first gold medals in the Downhill and Slalom, events respectively.

Comfortable and protective, with elements of properly knitted fiber construction and a rich yarn complexion, Alps & Meters’ Ski Race Knit conveys a story of alpine sports’ first racing personalities, their passion for skiing, and their highly fashionable taste on and off the mountain.

Designed by Tradition

Combining softly blend yarns, total comfort, and traditional personality, this alpine sportswear garment commands a first class expression representing the pure romance of ski racing from both the past and present.

Forged Performance

Form fitting and offering high visibility and graphic recognition for spectators viewing form afar, the Ski Race Knit is a staple of the winter sportswomen’s wardrobe

Super cute

The pattern is very flattering and I look forward to wearing this sweater in the fall (I purchased the one with camel colored yarn). It’s not a super high quality feeling sweater, but for the clearance price, I thought it was appropriately priced at $125.

Okay, but not a $300 + sweater

The sleeves were snug while the body is larger, it’s a poly wool blend, so not sure why it’s priced where it is. I plan to wear mine under a silver puff vest, so it will look cute, but not a super cute, I can’t wait to wear it out with the girls cute. More like, running to coffee, throw it on easy/effortless cute.

Beautiful Sweater!

I love this sweater. It is so soft and very well made. Very nice how you can make it a turtleneck or unbutton it if it gets too warm.

I ordered the large and the medium to compare. I kept the large because I will layer a cotton long sleeve undershirt under it. I am 5'9 and weigh 120, so I'm not big but have very long arms and torso. Even the medium sleeves were very generous in length though; you can fold them or leave them to cover more of your hands, very nice! And I just like a more roomy sweater.
