- What is Forged Performance?
At Alps & Meters, our approach to product development is different than systems employed by other outerwear brands. Our creative philosophy is called “Forged Performance” and it is designed to fuse traditional garment construction methods with natural materials and contemporary technologies. The intent of every Alps & Meters product is to offer first class performance and protection expressed through a timeless lens of alpine tradition. - How do I care for my garments?
The Shawl Collar Jacket is hand wash only. Additionally, while the full grain leather protective panels and pocket flaps provide long-lasting durability, conditioning the leather after use will add longevity to this beautiful, natural material. As a recommendation, we suggested using Chamberlain’s Leather Milk Liniment No. 1 which may be purchased from Chamberlain's. Please note that use of any conditioning product may alter or darken the tone of the leather as the conditioner is absorbed by the material.
The Alpine Anorak and Classic Shell Jacket are traditional waxed garments and cannot be washed or dry cleaned. Allow any mud or dirt on the jacket to dry, then brush off with a soft fabric pad and sponge with cold water if needed. Do not use any soaps or detergents. Because of traditional manufacturing methods for waxed cotton garments, some oils may transfer onto other surfaces. To avoid oil transfer, avoid prolonged contact with pale fabrics. These garments may need to be rewaxed occasionally using British Millerain Wax Dressing.
The Alpine Winter Trouser, Alpine Hooded Vest and Alpine Guide Sweater are all hand wash only.
The Classic Waffle is able to be dry cleaned.
- What is SnowShield and why is it used?
SnowShield is a nano-coating spray application with water repellant attributes. While the Alps & Meters Shawl Collar Jacket, Alpine Winter Trouser, Classic Pom Hat, and Alpine Winter Collar wool materials are naturally water repellant, our “Forged Performance” product philosophy led us to enhance these qualities by adding an the SnowShield coating to our products in an effort enhance their protective attributes and overall durability.
- What is a 10K/10K waterproof membrane?
The interior of every Alps & Meters outerwear garments contains a waterproof membrane. The 10K/10K waterproof rating is a metric used to define the water resistance and breathability levels of this unique technology. To technically describe the water resistance threshold of the technology, a 1” x 1” tall tube would need to be filled with 10,000 millileters (32.8 feet) of water before the membrane would start to allow water to pass through and reach the body.
- I see that your garments are manufactured in Vietnam and Hong Kong. Why?
Our Asian manufacturing partners are experts in knitwear. We've chosen trusted factory partners who could produce our technical outerwear in a manner aligned with our complex Forged Performance product philosophy which combines both cut-and-sew and knitwear techniques. These factories are very advanced, and also produce garments for some of the best known brands on the planet. For us, they were the obvious choice and we are proud of the factory partnerships that we have.
- Do you carry any other sizes?

- Can I ship to international addresses?
Yes, we do ship internationally. Shipping costs will be presented at checkout. We offer complimentary international shipping as well as an express shipping option. International customers are responsible for paying all applicable taxes and duty charges. Please contact us with any questions.
- Can I ship my order to someone else?
Yes, please provide the correct Shipping address at checkout. You will be provided a shipment confirmation via email with a FedEx tracking code.
- How long will my order take to arrive?
Alps & Meters offers complimentary shipping on all orders worldwide. Most orders to US addresses will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail, which generally will take 2 to 3 business days. If you wish to receive an expedited delivery, please select at checkout. Express shipping is usually Overnight Delivery.
For international orders, due to country-specific customs processes, please allow 7-14 days for international delivery.
Please note that some of our products are on backorder and will arrive 5-7 days after it has been received in stock. We will notify you when the product has been received and the item has shipped.
- How do I know when my order ships?
All orders are usually processed and shipped within 2 business days of the day the order was placed, unless the product is on backorder. You will be provided a shipment confirmation via email with a FedEx tracking code.

- What payment methods do you accept?
Alps & Meters accepts all major credit cards, PayPal and Apple Pay at checkout. We have also partnered with Affirm to allow customers to pay off purchases from Alps & Meters over time. Please contact us with any questions.
- How is sales tax calculated?
Sales tax is calculated for those customers shipping to Massachusetts, based on the Alps & Meters business location. Sales tax calculations follow all Sales Tax laws applicable and governed by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
- Can I make changes to my online order?

- Why is the company called Alps & Meters®?
For any skier, rider, or hiker the word “Alps” brings to mind an array of images that echo the type of atmosphere and memories we hope to distill throughout every touch point of our brand. The first word of our name is meant to transport you, our members, to mountain ranges, snow filled slopes, evergreen tree lines, cable cars, and warm après celebrations.
To further evoke the rich tone of our brand, and to emphasize the identity of the company as Tailors of Alpine Sport, the word “Meters” was chosen for its powerful double meaning. The primary meaning clearly refers to the mountains, their height, and their majesty. However, the second, and symbolic association of the word is connected to that of a tailored meter; the unit of measure and vintage yellow tape of centimeters, used by garment tailors to produce apparel of exceptional fit and craftsmanship.
We very much like the ring of “Alps & Meters” which describes both the classic mountain setting we most appreciate as well as the first class, “Forged Performance” products we carefully design. We hope that you are fond of our brand name as well and that this brief origin story helps to further our developing member relationship.

Gift cards provide a flexible way for you to purchase a gift for someone from Alps & Meters. You can purchase gift cards the same way you purchase any other product. And unlike a gift certificate, you can spread the gift card balance over multiple visits.
- How can I use a Gift Card/eGift Card?
To redeem a gift card on alpsandmeters.com, at Checkout, please enter your billing and shipping information and click continue to the next step. On the next page, input your gift card code in the text-editable box under Have a gift card? Enter it here. Once you enter your unique code, click the Apply button. If the balance available on the gift card is greater than or equal to the order total, the customer can simply click the Complete my purchase button. If the balance available on the gift card is less than the order total, the customer will be prompted to choose an additional payment method to cover the difference. The balance remaining on the gift card is displayed on the order confirmation page.
