W's Cashmere Lady Lunn Sweater

$1,595.00

Made in the USA

Named for Mabel Lunn, one of the most original female members of the Kandahar Ski Club, the Lady Lunn Sweater honors a woman who helped define alpine sport at its very beginning. In the 1920s, Lunn skied, raced, and traveled alongside the pioneers who formalized modern downhill and slalom—proving that elegance and athleticism belonged together on the mountain.

Crafted from 100% Scottish cashmere spun at the historic Todd & Duncan mill—whose lineage spans more than 150 years—this knit reflects the same standards of refinement, endurance, and quiet authority that defined the early Alpine Sport Clubs. Exceptionally soft yet resilient, it is designed for warmth in mountain chalets and composure beyond them.

The Lady Lunn Sweater stands as a tribute to the women who were there at the founding—skiing with conviction, shaping a sport, and setting a standard that remains timeless.

THE STORY

From the grounds of Britain’s posh green grass tennis courts and polo fields, migrated the cardigan sweater. Initially modeled after the woolen waist coats of British military officers of the 1800’s, this original button down knitwear garment was designed with outerwear-like utility and often included rank or insignias at the left shoulder along with durable overlays of leather or waxed cotton in high wear areas. Sophisticated yet understated, this classic coverall was transported to the world of alpine sport at the inception of the Kandahar Club and skiing’s British invasion of Murren, Switzerland during the early 20th century. Founded by Sir Alfred Lunn in 1924, the Kandahar Ski Club is responsible for the introduction and implementation of the modern slalom and downhill alpine race formats that guide such competitions today. With a dress code reflective of their British roots, this group of alpine sportswomen were impeccably dressed and counted the cardigan as a wardrobe staple signaling taste, intelligence, and mountain passion. An elegant knitwear staple, Alps & Meters W's Kandahar Cardigan reflects the panache of skiing’s original and natural wardrobe set. Primarily found off-piste, but familiar amidst the foothills of Murren where the Kandahar Club was formed, this button down sweater is crafted with 100% Todd & Duncan cashmere yarns, meticulous trim work, and a horn button placket celebrating of the Kandahar Club’s sporting legacy and polished British origins.
