Sterling Waffle

During the gold rush of the late 19th century, knitted garments became a staple of female pioneers joining their male counterparts in cross-country journeys by horse or on the first transcontinental railroad to destinations such as Park City, Utah. Initially, worn as “jumper suits”, long underwear and waffles were staples of working class wardrobes that offered innovative protection from the elements at elevations within the expansive Wasatch Mountain Range.

During Park City’s transition from its silver mining origins to a snow-filled ski town, these waffled garments were then adopted for alpine sport due to their ubiquitous presence among the local population who quickly discovered the comfortable and temperature regulating characteristics whilest skiing.

Alps & Meters’ Sterling Waffle is born from the first Western female skiing pioneers.
