THE STORY

The storied 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army was originally commissioned as the 10th Light Alpine in 1943. Initially conceived by Charles Minot Dole, President of the National Ski Patrol, and trained at Camp Hale, Colorado USA under the direction of mountaineer Jim Whitaker, the first American to summit Mount Everest. The 10th was the first elite skiing force of its kind, focused upon winter and mountain combat during WWII.

Contributing to the war effort through victories achieved in the Italian Alps and amidst harsh, snow-filled terrain, the 10th Mountain Division’s intense requirements for protection and performance lead to the War Department’s technical design and development of the Alpine Anorak as its standard issue jacket. Chosen for its pull-over characteristics reducing the windchill often felt through a front placket zipper, the full body coverage and hooded construction leveraged the centuries-old design knowledge of the native Inuits of Canada and Greenland who favored those same protective characteristics when crafting their garments from stretched animal skins and water repellent oils.

With reference and deference to the durable all-terrain winter performance garment of the 10th Mountain Division, Alps & Meters crafted the Alpine Anorak. A storied piece made famous by the best of men from the famed 10th, the Alpine Anorak delivers snow, wind, and water resistant protection through a combination of classic and contemporary technologies - waxed cotton and a 10k/10k waterproof membrane.

A timeless, tested, and authentic winter garment, the Alpine Anorak is designed to deliver exceptional quality and comfort while upholding the classic alpine traditions of the past.

Best anorak

I am 5'4" with broad shoulders so I have a hard time getting fit for items. A medium fits, and gives plenty of room for layering. If you don't want to layer and just use this anorak with a base layer a small fits better, and has a more athletic fit and feel. The quality of the item is top notch. This is a piece that will be generational that you can pass down.

Grant was excellent and he addressed so many of my questions about this item.

The Alpine Anorak is a wonderfully stylish coat. It’s very comfortable and it just feels right. It’s made of beautiful material that I can only imagine that With good care, I should be able to wear this for the next thirty to forty years. I can’t wait to get out in the woods for a hike on a chilly morning. What I also like is that it has two pockets that not only have a magnetic closure, they have zipper space for some gloves or for your phone. A couple of people have seen it and they are already talking about buying one for themselves. I can’t recommend it enough.

Anorak

High quality waxed material. Solid construction that will be durable. I spend a lot of time in outdoor activity and demand a lot from my gear. This will be good protective rain and wind gear. Heavy enough to keep warm in winter as well.

Amazing Quality

Product quality is amazing! Had to exchange the XL for an XXL though. Customer service was excellent in assisting with exchange. 6'1", 280 lbs., 37" waist, former college football linebacker for size reference. XXL is just that perfect size where it isn't too big, but still big enough where I have the comfort of knowing I can easily fit an extra layer on underneath should I need or want to.

Good quality garment

Feels really good quality, plenty of room for layers (6 foot 1, 185lbs, size L). My planned trip has disappeared with Coronavirus so yet to be tested properly, but optimistic it will perform well in time.
