The 30s, 40s and 50s were decades of smart wardrobes comprised of posh layers of collared shirts, knitwear, and woolen trousers that differed in only a minor manner from the high street fashions of the times. Within the alpine sports clubs of the day, classic skiing ensembles often included an oxford shirt with cuffed sleeves which conveyed skiing’s then leisurely nature and the handsome appearance of its well-to-do enthusiasts. It is in this spirit that Alps & Meters has designed the Touring Oxford.

The Story

During the early 20th century, skiing became the infatuation of gentlemen intrigued by the wonderful novelty and sliding on snow. In its transition from an efficient mode of winter transportation to exciting new recreational activity, skiers of the era, beyond a pair of leather boots and wooden skis, took little time to modify their head-to-toe wardrobes for use on-mountain.

Designed by Tradition

Honoring the pioneers and trailblazers who built the American ski industry in the West, Alps & Meters built a sturdy, hard-wearing version of the classic Touring Oxford crafted from rugged, water-repellent corduroy.

Heavy weight, though fairly fitted

I love the flannel shirts from A&M, so I jumped on this corduroy alternative. The sizing seems a bit more fitted than other A&M shirts I've purchased--an athletic fit, really. Just be aware of this, because with heavy-weight corduroy (especially with the reinforcement panels) there isn't as much stretch as the other shirts.

Like other A&M shirts, the collar tends to be fairly large (size large is almost 17") and a bit on the shorter side. A matter of taste, but this feature makes it a little difficult to size up, so be aware.

Overall, I love the look of this item. The blue is a rich dark color, which looks great if you don't have a pet with light colored fur. Lol, you can even see the horse hair on the model's shirt on the website so I know it's not just me.
