THE STORY

Travel to, and amidst, majestic mountain environments has offered skiers a sense of freedom and wonder since Scandinavians first strapped wooden planks to their feet in Norway during the late 19th century. During the early advent of skiing as a mode of travel and then throughout is transition to 19th and 20th century winter sport, a proper ski sweater was considered standard equipment for mountain adventures due to its technically advanced woolen fibers which offered warmth, comfortable range of motion, and natural moisture wicking characteristics.

During the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s knitwear offered skiers a versatile expression of performance and style packaged in a traditional aesthetic born from the rich and storied heritage of alpine sport. Adopted by alpine guides within mountain locales from Aspen to Chamonix, such classic knitwear garments are respected for tried and true characteristics delivering winter-ready protection.

Cultivating a marriage of centuries old technologies such as dense lambswool and British waxed cotton, Alps & Meters is pleased to once again offer this proper mountain sweater as a protective homage to skiing’s oldest form of outerwear and its original pioneers, guides, and alpinists.

Good enough to buy several!

This sweater is of excellent quality. I ordered multiple colors which I never usually do! I am a chest size 43 and the large fits well. It definitely cannot be any smaller.

Great sweater

I have had this sweater for a few weeks now, and it has been a welcome addition to my winter closet. It is warm enough to wear on its own, over a base layer on winter hikes, when moving quickly (even at -10 Celsius) my puffy and other layers remaining in my backpack. The zippered pockets are certainly handy, when wearing this without other outer layers as well. The snug fit of the sleeves and ribbed cuffs are also really well done, and have not yet stretched out as some other sweaters tend to do (especially after pushing them up your arms). I am a little worried that this sweater will be a bit of a pain to wash, due to the leather details, and hand wash only instructions, but I guess sometime you just have to suffer for fashion. I’m looking forward to trying out some other alps and meters knitwear (ie the waffle sweater, when back in stock).

Very nice

Color was somewhat different but I preferred the way it looked in person. It was for my son and he has worn it and it fit well and was very warm!

Outstanding craftsmanship-

I wear it socially, professionally and athletically; primarily for downhill and cross-country skiing. I'm 6', 210lbs and the L fits perfectly.
