From invention in Scandinavia to its inception as a form of winter recreation in the United States, Norwegians gave definitive shape to the sport of skiing in North America. During the early 1900’s, Norwegian immigrants of Ishpeming Michigan introduced, as it was then called, skisport to their community.
First formed as the Norden Ski Club in 1887, this group of passionate alpinists adopted the namesake of their hometown and changed the name of this nacasenct alpine sporting body the Ispheming Ski Club which thereafter then gave official birth to the National Ski Association in 1905. Equipped with crafted and sometimes handmade garments of Norwegian origin which included timeless outerwear of a natural a material complexion and shearling insulation, America’s first skiers of Ispheming, Michigan competed in a variety of arenas including ski jumping and thereafter formal downhill all in the comfort of traditional products designed by the forefathers who commanded a no-frills but uncompromising dedicated to first class on-mountain performance
It is in the spirit of those pioneering skiers of Isphpeming who established the foundations of the National Ski Association that Alps & Meters introduces the Women's Norden Knit. Crafted in the USA with beautiful cashmere-merino fibers and an intricate “American Faire Isle” graphic, this traditional sweater reflects the sturdy stock and rich heritage of the Norwegian immigrants who gave the United States the gift of skiing.
